During the execution of documents for use abroad, Ukrainians may have certain difficulties with some documents. It is a common problem when it is necessary to obtain an apostille for a document that is not accepted for legalization in the relevant ministries of Ukraine.
How to solve a problem?
The way out of this situation is to draw up an affidavit. This document represents a statement drawn up by a notary on oath. The affidavit confirms the facts that are recorded on the notarial form. The statement must be accompanied by copies or originals of documents containing facts which must be confirmed and apostilled.
For example, a national passport of a citizen of Ukraine is not subject to apostillation. To confirm the authenticity of the document, the owner contacts a notary. The Ukrainian declares that the passport belongs to him on oath. The notary records the statement on a special form. A notarized copy of the passport is filed to it. The document is drawn up in Ukrainian. If necessary, it can be translated into another language.
An affidavit, as a notarial document, is subject to apostillation. In this case, copies of the passport act as an attachment. The affidavit is apostilled by the Ministry of Justice. After obtaining the stamp and translation, the document could be used in countries that have signed the Hague Convention.
